In Riverside County, California, Sheriff Chad Bianco made an announcement to the public, stating that he will not enforce the new Covid stay at home orders.

Governor Gavin Newsom made an announcement in regards to Covid restrictions. Due to the serge of Covid cases that have occurred throughout California, Governor Newsom has decided to prompt a new stay at home order that the citizens have to oblige. However, the county sheriff is going against the governor’s orders.

According to KTLA News, the sheriff stated that Gov. Newsom’s stay at home orders were ridiculous. As well as stating that “the metrics used for closures are unbelievably faulty and are not representative of true numbers and are disastrous for Riverside County.”

KTLA has provided data analysis by displaying a graph of the number of hospitalizations within the county. According to the hospitalization graph, the number of people that was recorded on December 6th 2020 was 658 people, which was the highest number of people that were hospitalized from March to December.

The article then points out more comments from the sheriff. Comments that state that the governor is hypocritical because he was caught at a dinner party full of people and was not following Covid guidelines.

USA Today has brought further information in regards to the situation. They explained that the guidelines include restaurants, hair salons, barbershops, movie theaters, and etc. They then decided to show incitement on how the governor‘s guidelines are affecting business owners.

For instance, they talked about Pineapple Hills Saloon owner Angela Marsden and how she had to shut down her store while witnessing actors working across the street. As well as gaining her reaction to it, she felt that she was betrayed by the state for allowing acting to be an essential job, compared to her job as a business owner.

In addition, they also gave statistics on the coronavirus within California. There are 40 million people that reside within the state. Out of the 40 million people, 1.3 million have contracted the virus and 20,000 people have died from it.

The Mercury News, however, gave more of an update to the story. According to The Mercury News article, the Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones, who has decided to go against Gov. Newsom’s mandate, has recently caught the coronavirus. He had symptoms such as fever, congestion, and he felt light headed.

Plus, his coworkers have also tested positive for the coronavirus. Similar to the USA Today and KTLA’s articles, it showed the sheriff’s expressions towards the governor’s lockdowns. In fact, the other two articles went into further details about other county sheriff’s not wanting to enforce the mandates.

In addition, the article also talks about Sacramento County’s struggles with the coronavirus. Within the county, there are over 1,100 new Covid cases and it is continuing to grow. However, the sheriff is still adamant in not enforcing the mandate.

The article was shorter than the others and gave information on that one county. While the other articles gave a more broader scale of the situation.
